Meet the Trearddur Bay Bulls women’s football squad – part 1

While the Trearddur Bay Bulls men’s team are taking a season out to rebuild, it’s all systems go for the women’s side.

All North Wales area clubs outside of the elite eight in Tier 2 North are still waiting to discover what leagues they will compete in come the 2021-22 season.

Bulls played in the North Wales Women’s Recreational League in 2019-20 and are now ready to upgrade.

Manager Chris Davies runs us through some of the players who have signed so far. There are some pretty awesome names here.

Catrin Ellen Jones

Catrin has been with Trearddur Bay from the start.

The 24-year-old is a strong defender who has developed into a very competent all-round player.

She was last season’s Managers Player and just keeps on improving!

Her twin brother John is also well-known on the Anglesey football scene, having starred for Bryngwran Bulls among others.

Nicole Norris

Nicole Is a great utility player who can operate in most positions.

She’s one of the founder members of the club and has improved no end over the last couple of years. You’d never think she hadn’t played the game before taking her first steps with the Bay.

Cara Mortimer

Cara plays centre-midfield but can also fill in at the back.

She was part of the Cybi Ladies team for three seasons that unfortunately disbanded. Cara then moved to Bethel before joining Amlwch Town.

Cara is a (very) tough tackling no-nonsense player that enjoys a good battle.

She has a good pass that can unlock a defence and will be sure to have a great deal of assists come the end of the season.

Cara is one of the new faces that have come in this season at Lon Isallt.

Gemma Thomas

Gemma is a calm, but tough tackling centre-back.

Can comfortably play from the back and is a commanding presence in the team.

Gemma came through the Trearddur Bay youth teams before moving briefly to Llangefni and then onto Caernarfon, where she was part of the 2013-14 team that won the Under-16 Welsh Cup, North Wales U16 League and two domestic cups.

Some of the players in that Caernarfon squad included: Danielle Barnfield, Lois Regan, Ffion Wyn Williams, Heledd Evans and Elain Evans, nearly all of whom have gone on to play in the Welsh Premier, or been successful in the North Wales Women’s League – that’s the sort of company Gemma has played with.

Gemma has also represented North Wales ladies, as well as Wales at basketball.

Ashleigh Jones

Tremendous player to have on board at Lon Isallt.

Ashleigh is a big character in the squad, she has experience of league football with Holyhead and more recently four seasons at Amlwch Town, winning the North Wales League Supplementary Cup and Division Two title with the Lon Bach side.

Ever-smiling Ashleigh has also represented Ynys Môn in the International Island Games. She mostly plays on either wing but can play in most positions when needed.

Success in football goes back a long way. In 2007, she became the first female captain to lift the Albert Owen Shield when leading Holyhead’s Ysgol Llanfawr to victory over Ysgol Llanfechell in the final.

Georgia Magee

Goalkeeper Georgia is another player who has been with Bay since their formation.

Georgia played youth football with Boothstown in Manchester before moving to Anglesey.

She is improving all the time and in the team’s view will become one of the best keepers in the league.

Freya Davies

A Trearddur Bay player since the team was formed.

She has represented Llangefni in the past as well as regional and national squads. Brilliant on the ball and can beat a player with ease.

Freya is another good character at the club and everyone at the Bay is made up she decided to stay with them this year.

The Bulls management believe she will be one of the strongest players in the league the team plays in.

Gail Paterson-Manning

Gail is a new face at Trearddur Bay Bulls, but certainly not to North Wales football.

This girl needs no introduction.

Having represented Bangor City, where she won the Welsh Cup alongside some amazing international players, Liverpool, Manchester City and Amlwch Town, where she lifted the Supplementary Cup and North Wales Division Two title, Gail is an Anglesey women’s football legend.

She will no doubt be highly influential to the team, bringing experience and organisation and is a huge asset to the club. The other girls are sure to learn a lot from playing alongside her.

Eldeg Lewis

Definitely the coolest christian name in North Wales women’s football!

Eldeg is another ever present for Trearddur Bay, having played football for Llangefni before heading to Leeds University. Unfortunately she struggled to find a team there to continue playing.

Eldeg is a strong player that can hold the ball up well up front and bring others into play. She’s not frightened of a tackle too and is a more than capable defender.

The Bulls management look forward to seeing the best of Eldeg, as she’s still improving her game.
