Title-winning defender signs for 1876

Cara Aston has joined CPDM Bangor 1876

CPDM Bangor 1876 have added a title-winning defender to their squad.

Cara Aston is the latest addition to the ranks at Treborth.

The 25-year-old won the North Wales League Division Two championship with Bethesda Athletic back in 2018-19.

The following season she joined Llanberis.

Speaking about the move to 1876, Cara said: “Having played under Johnny (Batten), Aron (Griffith) and Lois (Regan) before (at Llanberis) and alongside a few of the girls in the past, joining the team was really a no-brainer for me.

“I’m really looking forward to being part of the team and it’s great to see that they have clear plans for the future and I can’t wait to see what this coming season holds for us.”

Manager Batten gave his reaction to the new addition.

He said: “It’s great to have Cara on board and to be working with her again. She’s an experienced defender with lots of ambition, always giving 100% in everything that she does. I’m certain she’ll be a fantastic addition to the squad.”

Cara generally plays at right back, but can adapt to many positions. Strong in the tackle, she is also a good striker of the ball and takes a decent throw-in.

When interviewed by Grassroots North Wales a couple of years ago, Cara was asked who is the toughest opponent she has faced in football.

Her answer was Lexi Crawley, the goal machine who has also just signed for 1876. So Cara won’t have to come up against her for the time being at least!
