Liam Walker hits a stunning 133 in Chirk seconds triumph

Chirk 2nd XI skipper Liam Walker struck a magnificent 133 in his team’s victory

Shropshire County Cricket League

Division Seven

Quayside 85-10 (5) Chirk 2nd XI (20) 254-10

Skipper Liam Walker hit a fantastic maiden century to lead Chirk seconds to a crushing victory at Quayside.

The home side, from Frankwell in Shrewsbury, have been going for about 40 years, but their ground will not have seen many knocks of the quality Walker produced on Saturday.

Chirk 2nds won the toss and decided to bat.

No-one was really able to provide any lengthy support to opener Walker, who smashed 133 (sadly, balls faced, 4’s and 6’s were not submitted by the hosts).

Next highest score was extras with 33, although Connor Bailey did score a useful 30 and Gary Bailey was run out for 16, Jamie Roberts snaring 4-23 for the home side.

In reply, Quayside were dismissed for just 85 in 26.2 overs.

Stephen Conner picked up 3-4 off four overs, Bailey took 2-13 and Holly Walker 2-19, but it was a good all-round bowling effort also involving Dale Randall, Jack Morris and Andrew Edwards.

Division One

Wellington (20) 211-6 Chirk 1st XI (4) 139-10

Not such a good day for Chirk’s first team who lost by 72 runs at an impressive Wellington side.

Calling the coin correctly and opting to bat, the Shropshire hosts chalked up 211-6 off their 45 overs, opener William David Lewin a commanding 92 with Luke Hansford and Sam Lloyd adding 36 apiece.

The innings featured four run outs, only Luke Gardner and Billy Swarbrick taking a wicket.

Chirk were then all out for 139, opener Wynn Jones best with 38, Nick Flack and Shaun Walker contributing 16 each.

Steve Moules gathered 3-12 and Matt Stinson 3-23 for the home side, who took the better of the points 20-4.
