Tuesday friendlies: Macauley magic wins the day for 1879

Macauley Taylor’s 55th minute goal ensured 1879 made it two pre-season wins in as many games at Airbus on Tuesday evening.

A great tackle from Elliot Evans set up Taylor to fire past the keeper and secure the win.

After the match, 1879 manager Gareth Thomas said: “An excellent workout for the 16 players used as we move onto Saturday and our first home game against Rhuddlan Town.”

1879 had kicked off their pre-season campaign last Tuesday (May 18) with a 4-3 win over Connah’s Quay Nomads Scholars.

Carl Lamb (2, 1 pen) and Macauley Taylor put the Belle Vue side three-up before the Deesiders recovered well to level at 3-3.

Enter Tom Cain to win the match with a 92nd minute free kick.

A strong Ruthin side were comfortable winners over their Tier 4 visitors, but Mynydd Isa put in a great shift with plenty of positives in their performance.

Harry Owen’s goal handed the Cymru North hosts a half time lead.

In the second half, an own goal, plus strikes from Wil Owen and a double from Jamie Cumming completed the scoring.

Ruthin Town Colts 0 The Millbank 1

In their first-ever away game, Rhyl side The Millbank ran out victors.

A very dominant display from the visitors saw Alex Hall produce yet another sublime strike to seal the win.

This Sunday should provide The Millbank with their toughest test to date. The Royal Oak will provide the opposition, starting 11 am at the Rezzo in Rhyl.

Penmaenmawr Phoenix 2 Llandudno Albion 2

Joel Lloyd and Joe Carey Jr were on target for Albion in a well-contested tussle at Cae Sling.

Alfie Caldecott and Dan Williams (penalty) replied for Phoenix.

Bontnewydd 0 Glantraeth 2

A goal apiece from Paris Hargrave and Scott Hughes ensured Glantraeth triumphed over a young and very promising Bontnewydd.

Glan took the lead midway through the first half with a cracking finish from striker Hargrave.

The second half saw Glan start to build momentum and the prolific Hughes soon added his name to the scoresheet from close range to double the away lead.

The Anglesey side will be hoping an ankle injury sustained late on by new young signing Luke Waller turns out to be nothing too serious.
