Liverpool Competition cricket: Colwyn Bay make winning start

Sion Morris made a useful 34 in Bay’s victory

Clwb Criced Bae Colwyn (25) 119-4 Ainsdale (3) 115-10
Liverpool Competition 1st XI First Division

Some familiar faces proved once more they are evergreen heroes as Clwb Criced Bae Colwyn began the 2021 season with a six-wicket win over Ainsdale.

Veterans and former skippers Paul Jenkins and Sion Morris were both in great form at Penrhyn Avenue.

Ainsdale won the toss and elected to bat, but were destroyed by the left-arm spin of Jenkins, who claimed 6-47 off 14.1 overs, while Adam Campion picked up 3-25 from 12.

Bay coasted to 119-4 in 29.5 overs, opener Morris posting a steady 34, while Zack Gidlow added 23.

Northop Hall (4) 184-9 dec Newton le Willows (24) 185-3
Liverpool Competition 1st XI First Division

Hall were unable to follow up their opening day victory as they slumped by seven wickets at home to Newton le Willows.

The hosts called the coin correctly and chose to bat, chalking up a modest 184-9 declared off 55 overs.

Will Higginson (42), Michael Barnes (38) and Alastair Andrady (33) all made useful scores, but the innings lacked that one substantive effort.

An opening stand of 100 between Ben Walkden (80 not out) and Marc Debrabander (68) got the visitors off to a great start.

And there were few alarms as Newton reached 185-3 off 53.1 overs, Harrison Jones, James Hurlin and Kieran New taking a wicket apiece.

Prestatyn (3) 107-10 Southport Trinity (20) 108-4
Liverpool Competition 1st XI Second Division

A six-wicket home loss for Prestatyn whose total of 107 was never going to be enough to worry their opponents.

Put into bat, only Rohit Kaimal (38), Andy Taylor (20) and skipper David Harris (20) made any impression, Craig Black taking 6-36 for the visitors.

Trinity eased to 108-4 off 31.3 overs, Kaimal with 2-21 and Sheil Sethi 2-32 for the hosts.
