Cymru Premier: Bala Town edge nearer to a Europa League spot

Lassana Mendes scored the goal that mattered for Bala

Bala Town took a huge step towards another European football campaign with a 1-0 home win over Barry Town United.

Lassana Mendes sealed victory for the Lakesiders with a thunderous 55th minute strike into the roof of the net.

Town are now nine points clear with five rounds of matches to go in that crucial battle for third-place and Europa League football.

Caernarfon Town lost 6-0 at Penybont last December and although they performed much better yesterday on their return to Bryntirion Park, they still went down 2-0, making it five defeats on the trot in phase two.

Connah’s Quay Nomads took over top spot with a stunning 4-1 win at previous leaders The New Saints.

Michael Wilde grabbed a hat-trick for Nomads, Jamie Insall adding a single, while Ryan Brobbel brought TNS level at one stage.

This match was reported in depth on Grassroots North Wales yesterday.

Meanwhile, in the Play-Off Conference, Flint Town United earned a good 0-0 draw at previous table-toppers Haverfordwest County, who had lost their last two matches 5-1 and 6-1.

Cefn Druids were hammered 5-0 at Newtown, who took over at the Play-Off Conference summit.

On Friday night, Aberystwyth Town and Cardiff Met University drew 1-1.
