Cymru Premier previews: Flint and Druids in crunch battle while Cofis greet Quay

No doubting what the North Wales match of the night is in the JD Cymru Premier this evening – the battle of strugglers at the Essity Stadium between Flint Town United and Cefn Druids (7.45 pm).

Both are coming off morale-boosting wins at the weekend, the Silkmen defeating Cardiff Met 2-0 and the Ancients overcoming Haverfordwest County 2-1 thanks to an added time winner from Charley Edge.

However, both teams still badly need points to boost their respective safety missions in the lower sixth Play-Off Conference.

Neil Gibson’s Flint will be without suspended midfielder Alex Jones after his sending off against Met.

In the Championship Conference, two sides which were beaten at home on Saturday clash at The Oval as Caernarfon Town take on champions Connah’s Quay Nomads.

The Canaries were mugged by an added time winner from visitors Barry Town United in a 1-0 outcome, while Nomads lost in the league at Deeside Stadium for the first time in two years as Penybont snatched the spoils 2-0.

In his programme notes before the match, Caernarfon manager Huw Griffiths wrote: “The result against Barry Town on Saturday was both frustrating and disappointing.

“Losing in 90+1 is hard to take for us all! I thought we were good enough to at least take a point and that a draw would have been a fair result.

“It was a game of two halves – Town were certainly the better team in the first half but didn’t make the most of the chances created in front of goal; Barry came more into the game in the second half but Town defended well to keep them at bay until . . . almost the final whistle!

“Tonight we have an extremely difficult task ahead of us – we face a ‘wounded’ Connah’s Quay Nomads. They not only surprisingly lost 2-0 against Pen-y-Bont on Saturday, but following TNS’ win over Bala they lost their top spot in the league.

“I’m sure Andy Morrison’s men will be out to prove a point tonight and to bounce back from their first defeat in 15 games.

“We’re all aware of the very tough challenge facing us tonight but with the lads playing at their best and showing plenty of Cofi passion another ‘upset’ could be on the cards. Getting a result from tonight’s match will certainly be our aim.”
