Champions nearly always find a way to win.

That is why they become champions.

And current Cymru Premier title holders Connah’s Quay Nomads showed again tonight they have no intention of giving up their crown without a humongous fight following a dramatic 1-0 win at Flint Town United.

The local rivals were locked at 0-0 until the 80th minute, when keeper Ollie Byrne sent a long free kick up to Michael Wilde, whose flicked header – his 11th goal of the campaign – settled the issue.

Third-from-bottom Flint could take huge positives from their performance and so nearly equalised in added time when Byrne produced a magnificent late save from Ben Maher.

The Nomads have now won nine consecutive top flight matches for the first time in their history.

Andy Morrison’s side also returned to the Cymru Premier summit, two points clear of The New Saints with both having played the same number of games.
