Craig Evans has picked up a host of medals in a cracking football career on Anglesey

Craig Evans must be one of Anglesey’s most decorated footballers from the past 10 years or so.

Current Gwalchmai player-manager Evans has won a host of medals in a career where he has represented four island clubs.

Today Craig celebrates his 37th birthday. His date of birth is actually February 29, 1984, but there is no 29th this month with it not being a leap year.

He has enjoyed plenty of success over the years with Llangefni Town, Gwalchmai, Bodedern Athletic and Glantraeth.

In 2009-10, Craig won the Gwynedd League treble with Gwalchmai, scoring the all-important goal – a 30-yard cracker – in a 1-1 draw with Bodedern which secured Paul Owen and Rob Hughes’ side the title.

Gwalch also scooped the Gwynedd Premier Cup and Cwpan Gwynedd and reached the NWCFA Intermediate Cup and Barritt Cup finals.

The 2010-11 campaign saw Craig part of a Glantraeth side which picked up a remarkable four trophy wins in 14 glorious days, lifting the Cwpan Gwynedd, Gwynedd Shield, Bob Owen Memorial Shield and NWCFA Intermediate Cup.

They finished runners-up in the Gwynedd League, but still clinched promotion to the Welsh Alliance as champions Bro Goronwy were unable to go up.

Craig netted 32 goals that season for the Bodorgan-based team.

In 2014/15, Craig scored a magnificent 34 times for Llangefni Town when they finished runners-up in Welsh Alliance Division Two to seal promotion. He also won the 2014/15 Supporters Player Of The Year.

Craig added another 20 goals the season after when Cefni finished third in Division One.

In November 2018, Craig took charge of Gwalchmai and led them to promotion from the Gwynedd League.

Craig, who once scored six goals in a game against Pentraeth, still remains a potent force in attack for Gwalchmai, who last played in 2019-20 in Welsh Alliance Division Two.

He has played with and against numerous great players over the years and regards his best opponents faced as Llangefni Town’s Chris Saxon and former Wrexham, Cemaes Bay and Bangor City midfielder Richard Jones (Rich Bach).

One of Craig’s main ambitions remaining in the game is to win the NWCFA Junior Cup.
