My North Wales women’s dream team: Annmarie Jones (Connah’s Quay Nomads)

Experienced campaigner Annmarie Jones chooses team 17 in the series of North Wales Women’s Dream XI’s.

In choosing her side, current Connah’s Quay Nomads player and former Northop Hall star Annmarie follows previous ‘managers’ Fflur Williams, Chelsea Evans, Abby Williams, Gwenno Gibbard Bolton, Lexi Crawley, Claire Colville, Cerys Gadd, Libby McClelland, Meinir Thomas, Erica Jones, Rachel Roberts, Beca Williams, Mari Gibbard, Emily Jones, Cara Wyn Hughes and Catrin Wyn Thomas.

GOALKEEPER

Bethan Thomas

Bethan saves from Airbus striker Becky Lees

Always been an amazing talent. I remember Bethan making the step up and training with the ladies at Northop Hall. You could see then she was unbelievable.

DEFENDERS

Kim Sands

Kim Sands is shining bright with Chester

What a defender. Silent assassin when at Northop, never used to shout much, but always won the ball.
Brilliant player, also represented Rhyl in the Welsh Premier.
Was gutted when Kimbo left Northop, but made up that she’s achieved so much with Chester, where she is very highly regarded.

Erica (pink/grey kit) is never afraid of going in where it hurts. Picture: Dai Sinclair

Erica Jones

Always a challenge when playing against Erica, a force on the pitch and a lovely person off the pitch too.
Heart of Pwllheli Ladies.

Jasmin Dutton

The brilliant Jasmin Dutton

A true leader.
Learned a great deal playing alongside Jasmin, how to play centre back for one. Nothing I don’t think Jasmin can’t do. Wales international, formerly in Welsh Premier with Llandudno, brilliant for Nomads last season.

Cat King

Cat King (centre)

You would struggle to find any other player who is more committed and determined than Cat.
Reads the game so well, a presence on the pitch. Always 100% with Cat.

MIDFIELDERS

Shannon Hobbs

Ex-Rhyl and Prestatyn, all round brilliant young player.
Played a few years alongside her at Northop, then more recently at Nomads. Shan has just grown as a player, awesome to watch on the pitch.

Barbara Nadworna/ Paula Rytwinska

The dynamic duo Paula (left) and Barbara

I’m naming this duo as one, as they always came as a pair.
Came to Northop after playing against us in a five-a-side tournament. Absolutely loved playing alongside these two, passion and determination always.
Some amazing memories with these two crazy byatches.

Kristie Kural

Kirstie Kural (dark blue)

Another person that blows my mind on the pitch.
Whether it’s 11-a-side, 5-a-side or Futsal, she outclasses anyone she shares the pitch with. Rainbow flicking players during a game, the balls of it. Incredible player.

STRIKERS

Laura Pennington

By far the best striker I’ve had the privilege to play alongside. Ball just seems to always be glued to her feet. Mind-blowing player.
Scored 48 goals when she won North Wales League with Northop Hall in 2017-18. Has since played for TNS and Wem Town.

Candice Nellist

I love a player that gets stuck into a game, isn’t afraid of putting herself out there and is a little hot headed. Yes Candice.
Got a right bag full of goals for Nomads, scored some crucial ones along the way. Another who has played in the Welsh Premier for Rhyl and also had a spell with Tranmere Rovers. Would be a great striker for any team.
