Bangor City 2 (Rowlands, Lloyd Williams)
League of Wales – February 3, 2001

In this battle of the first two teams to win the League of Wales, Cwmbran ran up a 4-0 interval lead thanks to some woeful defending by Bangor who could not come to terms with the pace of right-sided attacker Nathan Cottrell.

The first goal came in the 10th minute when Adam Moore capitalised on confusion in the visiting defence caused by a Cottrell cross.

Then Cottrell cut inside to double the lead as Clive Brown struggled to keep his feet on the slippery surface, the winger netting from 25 yards.

Jodie Jenkins completed the rout in the first half with goals in the 24th and 39th minutes but City conspired to miss an excellent chance when John Paul Roberts missed from a yard out via a right wing cross.

Half-time: Cwmbran 4 Bangor 0

The second half was a different story – perhaps the Crows rightly thought the job was done – but within three minutes of the restart Aled Rowlands scored from nearly 30 yards after running through on the right to make it 4-1.

In the 53rd minute the gap narrowed further as Marc Lloyd Williams ripped the ball through the net and had to protest that he had scored – a fact confirmed by the sight of a foot wide hole in the onion bag!

The hosts hit back through Mark Evans to complete the scoring on 64 minutes. The wing-back took off his shirt for some celebratory purpose – and 10 minutes later when he was yellow carded for a foul he consequently enjoyed an early bath!
