Today is a special day for CPD Llannefydd manager Gwyndaf Pritchard

Penblwydd hapus mawr i Gwyndaf Pritchard – rheolwr llwyddiannus CPD Llannefydd.

Born on January 6, 1977, Gwyndaf has won a host of honours with Llannefydd Football Club in his time as manager.

He started playing football at school and joined the Cefn team competing in the Llandyrnog and District Village Clubs Summer League at the age of 14.

After leaving school, he diverted to rugby for a while, wearing the colours of Nant Conwy.

In 1998 CPD Llannefydd was formed and Gwyndaf started playing for his local village side.

Over the past 23 years he has filled just about every role at the club, having been a player, treasurer, secretary and manager, a position he holds to this day.

It was a proud afternoon for Gwyndaf and the village when the team won their first trophy in 2013 – beating Bro Cernyw 3-1 in the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Auxiliary Cup final.

Gwyndaf with the 2016-17 treble trophy collection

The following season things got much better as Llannefydd were crowned 2013-14 Premier Division champions and retained the Auxiliary Cup, defeating Machno United 2-0 in the final.

In 2015/16, the club tasted more glory as they lifted the President’s Cup, this time finishing runners-up in the Premier Division.

The 2016/17 campaign was the best of all, Llannefydd scooping the treble of Premier Division title, Premier Cup and Premier Auxiliary Cup.

Since promotion to the now defunct Welsh Alliance League in 2017-18, Pritchard’s men have performed consistently well in Division Two, ending up fourth in their first season, third in 2018-19 and second in the curtailed 2019-20 campaign.

Under the new Welsh pyramid system, they have been placed in the tier 4 North Wales Coast East Premier Division for the 2020-21 season, which is yet to start for all clubs below tier 1 due to coronavirus.

No job has ever been too small for Gwyndaf – even pumping up the footballs!

Gwyndaf is very proud of his team, as well as being part of a community which provides tremendous backing for its footballers.

In recent years, Menter Nefydd helped the club build a new sports pavilion and changing rooms with the additional support of the village community council.

CPD Llannefydd are a club on the up and today’s birthday boy Gwyndaf Pritchard is right at the forefront.

Penblwydd hapus!
