Flashback – 5 years ago: Llandudno kick off 2016 with revenge victory

Marc Williams opened the scoring for Llandudno

Bangor City 0
Llandudno 3 (Marc Williams 6, Hughes 8, Bull 39)
Welsh Premier League – January 1, 2016

Four days after being beaten 2-1 by Bangor at Maesdu Park, Llandudno bounced back in style with a 3-0 success at Nantporth.

It was the perfect start to 2016 for Tudno on this date five years ago.

City were clearly disrupted by the late withdrawal of defender Leon Clowes through injury.

After a goalless opening five minutes the Seasiders struck twice in 90 seconds. First Alan Bull slid in Marc Williams on the right and his calm finish gave Connor Roberts no chance.

Then a corner from the right was allowed to reach midfielder Danny Hughes who crashed home from six yards. That the burly midfielder celebrated with some kind of chicken dance bewildered most watching but the two-nil scoreline left nothing in doubt, the game was all but over inside the opening minutes.

On the half hour Llandudno broke upfield after a period of ineffective possession from Bangor. The ball ran to Liam Dawson who shot over from 30 yards. Then Tom Dix crossed from the left but Marc Williams headed well wide.

In the 39th minute Bull made it 3-0 for the visitors as he held off Anthony Miley to slide the ball past Roberts from the right.

Bangor were well beaten now but there was time for Christian Langos and Rio Ahmadi to combine to slide the ball to Sam Hart, whose 30-yarder crashed against the crossbar with Dave Roberts well beaten.

Half-time: Bangor 0 Llandudno 3

City began the second half the better. Dec Walker crossed to Chris Jones who headed over.

Bangor were on something akin to level terms with the visitors now but of course the scoreline said very different.

And with 20 minutes that scoreline nearly got worse as Marc Williams got the better of the blues defence but dragged his shot wide from the left.

Damien Allen’s rising shot struck a Llandudno defender around the chest and arm at once, yet no-one even appealed for a penalty which summed up the afternoon in some ways.

A final chance came Llandudno’s way as substitute Lee Thomas crossed from the right but Young did enough at the back post to distract Marc Williams who shot wide at full stretch.
