Pwllheli Ladies FC star Stacey Sansome is today’s birthday girl

Stacey Sansome must rank as one of the finest players ever to represent Pwllheli women’s football team.

Born on December 15, 1989, mother-of-two Stacey is 31 today.

Her involvement with Pwllheli football dates back many years. Her earliest memory with the club is turning out for the under-12’s at the turn of the new millennium.

Back in 2006, a then 16-year-old Stacey playing under her maiden name Roberts was a member of the squad which made it all the way to the Welsh Cup Final.

Although the result against Cardiff City that day is best forgotten, just the fact Pwllheli made it to a national final was a tremendous achievement.

Stacey’s most memorable career moment to date was playing on Manchester United’s The Cliff training ground versus their girls U16’s side and scoring the winning goal.

Stacey can – and has – operate in any position. Last season she excelled up front, scoring 13 goals in total as Pwllheli made a positive impression in North Wales Women’s League Division Two.

With 12 league goals to her credit, she finished third-joint top scorer in the division.

During the shortened 2019-20 season, she netted what she rates as her best goal – an effort from almost halfway against Penrhyn Bay.

She also bagged five goals in an 18-1 thrashing of Holywell and notched a hat-trick in a losing cause, a game which saw Pwllheli pipped 5-4 at home to Llanberis. Against Division Two champions Amlwch Town, Stacey found the net twice in an 8-3 defeat.

Stacey believes her footballing strengths are her work rate, understanding of the game and getting into tackles.

She rates team-mate Erin Parry as the best player she has played alongside and cites Peter Noel Jones as having the biggest influence on her football career.

Pwllheli women have not kicked a competitive ball since beating Mountain Rangers 2-0 on March 8.

Like everyone else, Stacey cannot wait to get back to action, especially as Pwll have boosted their squad with some quality players.
