Birthday boy Dan Evans is a star player in two sports

Dan Evans is a great sporting ambassador for the town of Llandudno

Dan Evans is undoubtedly a highly-talented all-round sportsman.

The question is, what is he best at – football or cricket ?

Does the fact he is a scorer of so many important goals from midfield for Llandudno Albion make football his no 1 sport ?

Or is he a superior cricketer, based on the centuries and wickets he has amassed for Llandudno Lions CC ?

Let’s look at his cricket stats – 191 league matches for Tudno’s 1st XI, 4767 runs, 25 half-centuries, nine tons and an average of 31.36.

In all matches, more than 5,000 runs for the club. Bowling – 210 league wickets for the Lions at 18.59 apiece (173 first-team victims).

Dan was a regular in the Llandudno sides which won the North Wales Cricket League Premier Division title in 2013 and 2016, while in 2017 he was second overall in the top flight run chart with 822.

He also represented Wales in his younger years.

Born on December 14, 1997, Dan celebrates his 23rd birthday today.

Cricket is not his only specialist sport – he is also a key midfielder for progressive Welsh pyramid tier 3 football club Llandudno Albion.

Dan lies sixth top scorer overall in Albion’s short history with 40 goals.

He first appeared for the club in 2016-17, his first-ever goal a winning one against Mochdre Sports.

Albion won the Welsh Alliance Division Two title that season at the first attempt.

In 2017-18, Dan was second-top scorer with 15 goals and netted in the final as Albion lifted the Mawddach Cup and finished seventh in Division One.

Dan was on the mark 12 times in 2018-19 when Albion claimed a highly creditable third place in Welsh Alliance Division One.

Then in the curtailed 2019-20 campaign, Dan struck 11 goals and helped Albion reach the FAW Trophy final for the first time.

Sadly, the prestigious game was never played due to the pandemic ending the season early.

If a book is ever written in the future entitled Great Sporting Figures of Llandudno, it is very possible a special chapter will be reserved for Dan Evans.

Happy birthday mate – and many of them.
