Town always faced a major uphill task once goalkeeper Josh Tibbets was sent off just five minutes into yesterday’s Cymru Premier clash at The Oval.

The hosts having started brightly, Tibbetts made a rash decision to spring off his line to clear a ball just outside his box and, having failed to do so, impeded Jack Wilson, who was clear on goal.

Referee Nick Pratt immediately pulled out his red card and, with no substitute keeper on the bench, Jamie Crowther donned the No 1 shirt.

Caernarfon regrouped and a stylish counter attack on the left gave Mike Hayes an opportunity to score in the 12th minute but his well-struck effort was smartly saved by Wojciech Gajda.

Hayes was at it again two minutes later but this time he drilled a low delivery across the six-yard area that was just inches away from the onrushing Jack Kenny at the far post.

The Cofis deservedly went ahead in the 24th minute after Darren Thomas curled a pinpoint cross onto the head of Gareth Edwards, and the captain directed the ball past Gajda from eight yards.

The hosts’ joy was short-lived, however, as four minutes later Wilson finished from close range after getting on the end of an excellent Ben Fawcett cross.

Wilson repaid the favour in the 36th minute when he fed Fawcett in the box and the striker made no mistake to power the ball past Crowther.

Hayes went close to equalising in the final seconds of the half but his low effort evaded the right upright by just inches.

Caernarfon began the second period on the front foot and there were strong shouts for a penalty for alleged handball in the 49th minute, but Mr Pratt disagreed and Haver cleared their lines.

It was 3-1 in the 56th minute when Fawcett charged down a clearance from Town’s stand-in keeper and the ball fell to Wilson, who slotted into an open goal.

Marcus Griffiths added a fourth late on for Wayne Jones’ outfit.

Caernarfon: Josh Tibbetts, Joe Williams, Gruff John, Mike Parker, Gareth Edwards, Paulo Mendes, Jamie Crowther, Danny Brookwell, Mike Hayes, Darren Thomas, Jack Kenny. Subs (used): Jack Fleming, Cai Jones, Cai Owen. Not used: Sam Jones, Ryan Williams, Telor Williams.

Rest of the action

Connah’s Quay Nomads trailed early to a goal from Barry Town United’s Jordan Cotterill, but the champions recovered to win 3-1.

Mike Wilde levelled on 11 minutes and Declan Poole made it 2-1 after 36.

Aeron Edwards completed the scoring on 70 minutes.

Flint Town United had Alex Jones sent off in the 22nd minute of their 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Cardiff Metropolitan.

Oliver Hulbert notched the deciding goal in the 73rd minute.

Leaders The New Saints thrashed Aberystwyth Town 4-1 at Park Hall.

A third-minute Jonathan Foligno own goal put Saints ahead, but Steven Hewitt brought it all-square before half time.

In the second half the hosts took control, a Lee Jenkins own goal and Greg Draper double sealing the spoils.

On Friday night, two cracking Will Evans goals set Bala Town on their way to a 3-1 success over Newtown at Maes Tegid.

Evans’ pair both came in the first half, and although Matthew Williams pulled one back for the Robins, Steven Leslie sealed it by making it 3-1 late on.
