Welsh Cup second round – October 31, 2015

Man of the match Jay Gibbs scored twice as Caernarfon advanced to the Welsh Cup third round with a comfortable 4-0 home win over Llandudno Junction five years ago today.

The Welsh Alliance visitors, previously unbeaten over 13 matches in all competitions, more than played their part in an even first half-hour before Nathan Craig’s cross was headed in by Grahame Austin to put the Canaries ahead.

Huws Gray Alliance side Town doubled their lead four minutes later when Gibbs applied a first-time finish from 10 yards after good build-up also involving Jamie Breese and Rob Jones.

Gibbs turned provider just before half time as he threaded a ball from midfield into the path of Breese, who finished superbly by dinking over onrushing keeper Gwydion Owen.

Just past the hour substitute James Thomas’s jinking run resulted in him being brought down outside the penalty area.

Craig’s free kick was pushed out by Owen but the ball soon returned to the ex-Everton player who crossed to the far post, where Gibbs was on hand to head home.
