Midfield ace James Stead has signed for Cymru Premier club Caernarfon Town.

Stead is the third player to join the Canaries from Prestatyn Town in recent days, following the arrival of Michael Parker and Jack Kenny.

Having began his career at Rhyl, Stead moved to Prestatyn in 2014 and spent four years at Bastion Gardens, representing the club at Cymru Alliance and Welsh Premier League level.

He rejoined the Lilywhites in June 2018, but was back at Prestatyn at the start of last season, scoring six goals as Town romped to the Cymru North league title.

Stead becomes the latest in a long line of last term’s championship-winning squad to depart the club, manager Neil Gibson having also left.

A creative midfielder, Stead is especially effective at set-pieces.

A Caernarfon Town statement said: “James has made it clear to us that our fanbase was a major factor in his decision to join Huw Griffiths’ squad.”

Stead added: “The reason I’ve joined is I know it’s a well supported club with a community fan base and having played against Caernarfon I know they get right behind the team and that’s something I’m looking forward to when everyone is allowed back into grounds.

“It’s a competitive team and I’m looking forward to the new challenge and hopefully helping push us towards a European finish come May.”
