Denbigh Town ladies appoint new captain and vice-captain for 2020-21

Denbigh’s new captain Elen James-Owen

Denbigh Town Ladies FC have announced their captain and vice-captain for the coming season.

Elen James-Owen will be captain with Carla Rizzi appointed vice captain.

New Denbigh manager Jordan Baker had this to say: “I am very happy with my choice of players in this situation.

“Elen has shown great quality since I have come in and been commanding on and off the pitch. I look forward to working with Elen to accelerate the ladies growth.

Carla Rizzi is vice-captain

“Carla has an outstanding professional approach. She has shown great commitment so far and is a key figure in the changing room.”

Denbigh announced the good news recently that last season’s top scorer, Rosie Hughes, will be staying with the team for the 2020-21 campaign.

New players, defender Rosie Gillis, midfielder/attacker Alisha Mather, Jess Duff, a young talent who plays at the back, the exciting Cara Jones and Miriam Owen, 17, a prospect who has shown great defensive capabilities, have also joined the squad.

Baker expects to announce a couple more additions to the ranks soon.

Denbigh Ladies have been placed in the North Wales Women’s League Championship East Division this season alongside Corwen, Holywell Town, Northop Hall, Welshpool and Wrexham.

Meanwhile, the team continues to welcome potential new players.

Covid-19 compliant trial nights are held at the club every Tuesday between 6.30 and 8 pm. Just come along for fun, there’s no pressure on you to be the next Lucy Bronze.

Sessions take place on the Rec Pitch next to Denbigh Town’s FC main field at Central Park.
