Former Llandudno Athletic manager Rhys Lane is back in local football

Rhys Lane celebrates winning the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Premier Cup with Llandudno Athletic in 2018-19

Seven days after the club he founded was forced to fold, Rhys Lane is back in football management.

Lane is the new assistant-manager to Adam Parry at tier 4 North Wales Coast East Premier Division club Llanfairfechan Town.

Last week Lane announced Llandudno Athletic, the club he formed in 2014, was to disband due to a lack of players.

Athletic had moved from The Oval in Llandudno, which did not meet tier 4 criteria, to the better-equipped old Hotpoint Club ground in Llandudno Junction, but Lane said neighbouring reserve teams had stripped his squad bare by signing most of his players.

Initially stating he would take a break from the game, Lane, who won the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Premier Cup and President’s Cup double with Athletic in 2018-19, was offered a quick route back into football by Llanfairfechan.

He said: “I’m really happy to be joining Llanfairfechan. I had a few offers and was really tempted, but the set up at Llanfairfechan is really what made my mind up.

“Llanfairfechan have always been a very competitive side and Adam Parry has already recruited well ahead of this season and improved an already strong side.

“I hope I can come in and help Adam and the boys gel and I’m sure few clubs will relish a visit to The Rec this year.”

The assistant first team manager’s job at Llanfairfechan became vacant after Craig Berry decided he wanted to keep on playing, so stepped down to the reserves.
