Paul Roberts will be a major asset to Llandudno Ladies management team

In his playing days Paul Roberts was one of the top defenders in North Wales.

Now the ex-Welsh Premier player is aiming to make his mark as a coach in the women’s game.

Roberts has joined Llandudno Ladies FC as new assistant-manager and coach.

With the long-serving and highly respected Mark Jones (Heinz) having stepped down due to work commitments, a replacement was needed, and Roberts perfectly fits the bill.

Known as “Robbo”, he has a vast footballing history, including playing for Chester academy under the likes of Kevin Ratcliffe, Mark Wright and Gordon Hill.

Roberts, who is 38 on August 8, later turned out for Chester City and was a mainstay of Caernarfon Town’s defence for three seasons between 2001-04.

He also signed for Llangefni Town in their one and only WPL campaign of 2007-08, and represented Colwyn Bay and Llandudno, where he won the NWCFA Challenge Cup.

Along with his playing history, he has plenty of coaching experience.

Paul coached at Chester Development and In The Community, Llandudno juniors U7s to U12s and Llandudno academy U7s and has progressed to the U12s with the same boys, as well as developing Shea Pita, in his third year with Everton and Emily Howson, currently in her second year Liverpool.

He has also completed multiple courses including 11 v 11 formations and systems of play, developing a team philosophy and purpose, key moments in the game and many others.

Roberts will work alongside manager Sarah Colville and coach Trefor Jones at Llandudno Ladies.

The team resigned from the Welsh Premier Women’s League after eight seasons last term, but plan to return in the North Wales Women’s League in the forthcoming campaign.

“I took an interest in women’s football after i started coaching my little niece Emily, who is now in her second year with Liverpool FC,” said Paul.

“She is developing into some little player and is definitely one to watch out for in the future.

“I’m ready for senior football now and the goal this season is to build a strong squad with a good team spirit, who work hard and play exciting football but most of all I want them to enjoy themselves.”
