Dargie Cup Final WILL be played – when Covid-19 allows

The final of the most prestigious cup competition within the former Anglesey League will go ahead when Covid-19 allows, football chiefs have decided.

At a meeting of the North Wales Coast FA on Wednesday, members gave their blessing for the Dargie Cup Final between Cemaes Bay and Holyhead Hotspur Reserves to be played.

Last season the Anglesey Football League was dissolved as part of the Welsh pyramid shake-up.

The island league had run for 125 years and the Dargie Cup has been competed for since 1922-23.

It was feared the competition was consigned to the history books, but there will be one final fling when Cemaes and Hotspur meet once football returns following numerous months of disruption due to the coronavirus pandemic.

When the showdown takes place, Anglesey League champions Cemaes will be going for a double.

Bay will play in tier 5 this coming season. They are one of 18 teams registered to compete in North Wales Coast West Division One.

With the situation regarding reserve leagues still undecided, Hotspur’s reserves face an uncertain future.

Wednesday’s NWCFA meeting also saw members sanction the instalment of Bryan Roberts as association president with Bob Paton as deputy president to be ratified at the AGM, probably next month.
