Glan Conwy FC delight as the great Orme returns

Mark Orme is back at Glan Conwy

Highly-rated coach and player Mark Orme is back at Glan Conwy for the 2020-21 season.

Orme’s last stint at Cae Ffwt came in 2018-19 when he captained the side to the Welsh Alliance League Division Two/Tier 4 title.

A UEFA A licence coaching badge holder, he was manager Craig Hogg’s first addition to the club when Colwyn Bay returned home to join the Welsh football pyramid last season.

He left the Bay in June.

Orme now rejoins the management and playing set up at Glan Conwy, who will operate in the newly-formed Tier 4 North Wales Coast East Premier Division in 2020-21.

Manager Howard Vaughan reports the majority of last season’s squad have re-signed, adding Orme will be a major asset to the Conwy Valley club this term.

Vaughan said: “Mark Orme brings vast experience back to Glan Conwy. His time away in management in tier 2 can only help us as a senior club; he’s a great football guy and loves the game.

“Mark is also going to be heavily involved in the junior set-up, bringing players through the ranks.

Mark’s last stint at the club was 2 years ago where he captained Glan Conwy to the tier 4 title and we welcome him back with open arms.”

Orme was previously coach of the North Wales Coast side which narrowly missed out on qualification for the 2018-19 Uefa Regions Cup finals, which were held in Wales. Coast reached the FAW Regions Cup final only to lose 2-0 to South Wales.

In the group stages, Coast had beaten Central Wales home and away before defeating North East Wales FA 4-3 in the decider under Orme’s inspirational guidance.

Defender Orme, 37, has a first-class playing CV which includes stints at Llangefni Town, Denbigh Town and Holywell Town.

He also had a spell as Llandudno FC Development side manager and was joint-boss at Llandudno Junction before later becoming part of Glan Conwy and Colwyn Bay’s structure.
