More nostalgia from Aidy Jones, Amlwch Town FC all-time great, who provided Grassroots North Wales with a couple of 65-year-old match reports this week.
Collected during a trip to Llyfrgell Llangefni as a present for his late father Geraint’s 70th birthday in 2005, the match accounts are from Amlwch Anglesey League games against Llaneilian and Llanbedrgoch in 1954-55.
Geraint, a regular Amlwch player in the 1950s, passed away in 2008.
He used to regularly attend his son’s matches. Both took on the nickname Glo (Coal) with Geraint having run a coal yard in Dulas.
These reports are from the Holyhead and Anglesey Mail in 1955.
I have printed them as they appeared, which means unfortunately Llanbedrgoch is spelt wrongly and no first names are provided of the players.
Also, an Amlwch player is named as J C Williams at the top of one report, but then becomes J E Williams lower down.
Maybe this was the style in the 1950s, but if I’d been around then I’d have fought to get it changed.
Both Llaneilian and Llanbedrgoch disappeared after these seasons. The Llaneilian report may be of their last ever game!
Thanks very much to Aidy Jones for these.

Big Win To End Season
Amlwch completed their league fixtures for the season on Thursday week at home against Llaneilian and won handsomely by nine goals to nil.
The Amlwch team excelled themselves and had they produced this form all through the season would undoubtedly have been league leaders.
The forward line was in excellent form, especially the left-wing pair of J C Williams and G Jones, who obtained seven of the nine goals scored (Williams 4, Jones 3).
Amlwch were soon on the attack and scored when T Hughes parted the ball to G Jones, who netted.
The second came from a corner, J E Williams scoring, and, the same player made it three before half time.
On resuming, Amlwch continued on the attack, and scored when T Hughes scored a lovely goal.
Soon after R Jones put in a nice centre for J E Williams, who scored.
Number six came when J E Williams pushed a through ball for G Jones to drive home.
Amlwch were now well on top and even the defenders joined in on the attack.
B Jones the full back brought the ball down and passed to G Jones to score number seven.
F Owen and J E Williams netted again to complete the wrought to make it nine.
Final score: Amlwch 9 Llaneilian 0.

Poor Show at Llanbedergoch (sic)
Llanbedergoch completed their league fixtures on Saturday with a 3-2 home win over Amlwch.
The game was typical end of season football; neither side produced much good football.
The first half especially dull and the only lively incident was a run down the middle by Geraint Jones Amlwch, who drew the defence before passing to F Owen who scored a splendid goal.
After the interval play was half-hearted and some slackness enabled O’Neil to nip in and level the score.
This put a little more life into the game, and Llanbedergoch went ahead when T Williams took advantage of a pass back to the keeper, which was not gathered cleanly, and forced the ball into the net.
Shortly afterwards Llanbedergoch made it three when T Jones scored an easy goal.
After this Amlwch improved a little and due to some positional changes went over to attack, but thanks to Yeardsley, the Llanbedergoch keeper, the homesters kept their goal intact, until one minute from time, when T Hughes lobed the ball forward for O M Owen to head home a perfect goal.
Final score: Llanbedergoch 3 Amlwch 2.
