Porthmadog boss now more determined than ever to bring success to Traeth despite relegation blow

Despite suffering the crippling blow of relegation this week CPD Porthmadog have come back fighting.

After losing their Cymru North status on Tuesday, thus dropping out of the top two-tiers of Welsh football for the first time since they were established in the early 1990s, Port manager Craig Papirnyk has assured fans he is hungrier than ever to bring success to Y Traeth.

Had the FAW decided to go ahead with an idea of making the Cymru Premier a 14-club league, Porthmadog would have survived in Cymru North.

But when the governing body opted to keep the top league a 12-team competition, it meant three would go down from the Cymru North, including Port.

In spite of this week’s disappointment, Papirnyk delivered some positive news on the club website, announcing eight of last season’s squad are staying on.

They are: Paul Pritchard, Tomos Emlyn, Josh Banks, Ceri James, Ifan Emlyn, Gareth Jones Evans, Rhys Alun and Jamie Mcdaid.

“However, it is not the time to feel sorry for ourselves, now is the time to be more positive than ever!

“I am really pleased to say that the above named players have announced that they are fully committed for next season.

“I will update the supporters as and when with further player announcements and exciting new signings.

“I feel confident in telling you that we will be going all out to get back up next season and with this core group of players I have the foundation to build a team not only to go and win Tier 3 next season but prepare to go and challenge in Tier 2 when we return.

“I am now more than ever hungry for success at this club, and relish the challenges ahead.”
