It has not yet been confirmed what level Flint Town United will be playing at next season, but the Silkmen are certainly starting to build a squad equipped for the top flight.
Hot on the heels of signing former Prestatyn Town and Connah’s Quay Nomads livewire Robbie Hughes, manager Niall McGuinness has added ex-Wrexham defender Wes Baynes to the quality names at the Essity Stadium.
Baynes, 31, has signed for Flint from Aberystwyth Town. Among his other previous clubs are Wrexham, Chester and Connah’s Quay Nomads.
Born in Chester, Baynes came through the ranks at Wrexham, and made his first-team debut in a 2-2 home draw against Chester City in November 2007.
He made 12 first team appearances in all for the Dragons before their relegation from the Football League at the end of 2007-08.
After two campaigns in the Conference Premier with the Racecourse club, he spent most of 2010-11 on loan at Altrincham. Then in June 2011, he joined hometown club Chester.
A couple of seasons later, he switched to AFC Telford United.
On 26 April 2014, he won promotion to the Conference Premier with Telford after they clinched the Conference North title on the final game of the season.
In late September 2014, he landed at Colwyn Bay on loan, and subsequently made it permanent before signing for Connah’s Quay Nomads in the Welsh Premier League.
In May 2015, Baynes scored the only goal in the Europa League play-off final against Airbus UK Broughton that sent Nomads into Europe for the first time in their history.
After two seasons, comprising 74 appearances and seven goals with the Nomads, Baynes signed for then Cymru Alliance side Airbus UK in the summer of 2017.
In January 2018, he returned to the Welsh Premier with Llandudno. At the end of the season, he was released by Tudno and subsequently moved to Aberystwyth.
Baynes has featured in 123 Welsh Premier games, notching eight goals.
Flint have also confirmed vice-captain Mark Cadwallader and top young prospect Brandon Burrows have committed to the club for the 2020-21 season.
Cadwallader has been the Silkmen’s leading scorer for the past two seasons and in all has netted 54 goals in 104 appearances.
Next season will be his fifth at Flint, his previous clubs being Rhyl, Airbus UK, Northwich Victoria, Connah’s Quay and Bangor City, having graduated through Chester City’s youth system.
The evergreen John Davies, Chris Chung-Li and Jordan Barrow have also signed up once again for the Silkmen.
