Running news: Billy Goat sporting challenge for St David’s Hospice

Runners, cyclists and walkers are being invited to take part in an exciting new virtual sports challenge to help raise essential funds for St David’s Hospice at Llandudno.

This vital care organisation, which is situated close to the Great Orme – and the home of the famous Billy Goats – has been badly affected by recent coronavirus restrictions.

It has lost more than £1M due to the closure of their charity shops and the postponement of numerous fundraising efforts.

The new virtual event, to be completed anytime between 15-28th June, encourages people to run or walk 10k, or cycle 10-miles for a great cause.

Initially, the challenge was designed for rival members of the GOGs and North Wales Road Running Club to join forces in a five-person team event, with results based on age percentages rather than finishing times.

But event organisers have now decided to offer individuals the opportunity to join in with this unique challenge and to do their own thing – by walking or running 10k, or the option of cycling 10-miles.

North Wales Road Runners are inviting GOG members to enter the Billy Goat Team Challenge.

The main team event will consist of 5 team members (a mix from both clubs), who will be randomly selected live on Facebook on June 14.

The first member of each team to be selected will become the team captain.

Each team member will carry out one part of the event; either a 10km run TT OR a 10mile bike TT.  Routes will be selected by YOU and you will be responsible for handing in your results to your team captain.

The team captain will then pass the results on to John Hatton.

** There is now an extra opportunity for any non-club members and individuals to either run, walk or ride, but not as a team, and to make a valuable donation to St David’s Hospice based on the same terms and conditions.

Virtual Presentations will take place on 29th June at 7pm on Facebook.

Winning team members will receive a prize donated by John Hatton. Team times will be based on age-graded performance and the team with the highest average % performance will win.

ENTER NOW – entries to be received by 13th June 2020.

* To enter the team event, please give your name and preferred discipline to your Team Manager: Rhian Roxburgh (for the GOGs) and Don Hale (for NWRRC).

PLEASE CONFIRM ALL INDIVIDUAL ENTRIES WITH YOUR NAME TO: donald.hale@talk21.com

ALL ENTRIES INVITE A MINIMUM £5 DONATION WITH ALL PROCEEDS GIVEN TO ST DAVID’S HOSPICE, LLANDUDNO.

** Please pay via bank transfer, adding your name to: North Wales Road Runners, sort code: 40-18-08, Account number: 61209965
