Running: Green light for Martin in virtual challenge

Martin Green is in top form as usual

North Wales Road Runners Club’s Martin Green proved he has maintained top form throughout the ongoing coronavirus pandemic by finishing second in the Deiniolen 10k virtual challenge.

Martin was one of eight club runners among the 201 entrants for this quality run and recorded an excellent time of 33 mins 41 secs to win his M40 age category, behind overall race winner Rob Samuel from Eryri Harriers in 31.01.

Rob’s club colleague Gwyn Owen finished 3rd in 34.46.

Other results included Steve Bozier, running a season’s best, in 11th place in 40.06, and 4th in his M40 cat, with Stuart Culverhouse 21st in 43.19.

There was also a very close contest between local hoteliers Richard Scamans and Ben Hudson, with Richard finishing just one place ahead of his club colleague in 33rd place in 45.32, with Ben just 10 seconds adrift.

Veteran Kevin Slattery ran home well in 44th place, and was 2nd in his M60 age cat in 47.26, with Sarah Ferguson Hudson 58th overall, and 10th female, finishing 4th in her F40 cat in 49.46, with Rachel Morris 164th overall, and 74th female in 1.13.03.

Billy Goat Team Challenge

The fundraising Billy Goat Team Challenge for St David’s Hospice is well under way and will finally end next Sunday 28th June.

Organised by NWRRC in conjunction with the GOGs Triathlon Club, the pair have staged a virtual challenge with 13 teams taking part.

Each team consists of five members, including two cyclists and three runners.

The runners need to run a 10k distance, whenever and wherever they want, with cyclists completing a 10-mile route.

All the teams have been mixed with names drawn out of a hat, and the results based on an age percentage calculation.

To date, over £500 has been raised for the Hospice but individual entries are welcomed together with any other donations.

Details from: donald.hale@talk21.com

All entries invite a minimum £5 donation, with ALL proceeds donated to St David’s Hospice, Llandudno.
