Rhyl Football Club: A statistical history

Last week delivered one of the saddest stories to darken Welsh football in many years when Rhyl FC announced it was to enter into liquidation.

Financial problems finally put paid to 141 years of football at a club which won four Welsh Cups, three Cheshire County League titles and two Welsh Premier crowns.

The Lilywhites also played 14 matches in European competition and once reached the fourth round proper of the FA Cup.

Now it has all come to an end, although there was good news yesterday when it was announced a phoenix club will be formed in the town pretty rapidly.

Nonetheless, the Rhyl FC as we knew it will now be consigned to the memory bank and lives on only through its history.

What a history, though.

Although formed in 1879, the Lilywhites, who had played at Belle Vue 1900, only began playing recognised league football in 1898.

Here is a statistical rundown of the club’s record in various leagues and cups over the years.

(No issue with any of this being published elsewhere, but I will expect a brief credit. Stats are there for everyone, but I spent some time compiling all this. I will be watching. Thank you).
