Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League: Rhuddlan 12 points clear after latest victory

Jordan Bellham struck twice as Rhuddlan Town moved 12 points clear at the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Premier Division pinnacle with a 3-1 win over Llandudno Athletic.

Switched to 3G at Eirias Park, Colwyn Bay, to ensure the fixture went ahead after another week of heavy rain, both teams battled hard in the strong wind.

Bellham with the goal of the game in the first half took Rhuddlan one-up into the break with the wind.

The second half saw Wayne Hughes’ table-toppers playing against the elements but they remain a potent force and Bellham again finished off a move in the box to make it 2-0.

On the hour mark Jay Whitehouse added a third.

Rhuddlan goalkeeper Jordie Baker pulled off some fantastic saves in the second half from wind-assisted shots which deservedly won him man of the match.

Llandudno Athletic pulled a goal back with the last kick of the game through veteran Steve McElroy, whose corner found its way directly into the net.

Winning manager Hughes said after the game: “Fantastic result today. I didn’t know what to expect from Llandudno as they haven’t played many games and it’s the first time I’ve seen them play.

“It was not our best performance but I’ll take that result all day. A fantastic performance from our goalkeeper in the second half definitely helped us win the game.”

Llanfairfechan Town were back to somewhere approaching their best form when they whipped Bro Cernyw 5-1 at the Recreation Ground.
Sion Devereux netted twice for the hosts, Ryan Lewis, Jacob Fraser and Elliott Croston also on target.

Just one game took place in Division One, Machno United defeating Llanfairfechan Town Reserves 3-2 at Coleg Llandrillo’s 3G pitch.

A goal from 47-year-old Ian Hughes, plus further strikes by Harry Kirkham and Kai McDonald-Hughes sealed the win for Machno, who fielded a good mix of youth and vast experience.
Jason Owen bagged both for Llanfair.
