Giant-killers Connah’s Quay Nomads will take on Welsh Premier League leaders Swansea City in the semi-finals of the FAW Women’s Welsh Cup next month.
North Wales Women’s League Division Two side Nomads caused a sensation on Sunday when they beat Welsh Premier favourites Port Talbot, from two levels higher, 2-1 in a quarter-final battle at Connah’s Quay.
Next up for Sara Hilton’s side are runaway WPWL table-toppers Swansea, who have a 100% record in all competitions this season.
City played NWWFL Division One outfit Bethel in the last round and won 4-0, but were given a good test by the Caernarfon area team. Bethel are the only side to beat Nomads this season, doing so twice.
In the other Welsh Cup semi, Llandudno or Abergavenny meet Cardiff City FC Women or Cardiff Met University.
Tudno’s home quarter-final clash with WPWL side Abergavenny, twice postponed by the FAW, is expected to take place at Maesdu Park this Sunday.
Nomads manager Sara Hilton had this to say after this evening’s draw: “We’re ready for our next challenge.
“Again, we face a very experienced side in Swansea City and it will definitely put us to the test but we’re looking forward to the challenge and continuing to push the bar higher for ourselves.
“We will approach the game with the same organisation and outlook as we have done previously and myself, Cassie (Thomas – assistant) and the players are thoroughly looking forward to the 15th March.”
