Tom Douglas has been a sensation in his first season with Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) Premier Division side Rhostyllen.

He has netted 27 goals in just 17 games in all competitions – 23 from 14 in the league and 4 in 3 cup clashes.

Please tell us which clubs you have played for

Castrol in the Chester Sunday League, Rhostyllen

As this is your first experience of North Wales football, how did you get to sign for Rhostyllen?

Agent Lewis Clamp pestered me non-stop until I turned up for a friendly… then after 5 goals in 2 friendlies I was happy to sign.

How do you feel Rhostyllen have fared so far this season?

I think we have done really well and went under the radar early on. In all honesty though I’m disappointed we haven’t got more points as we have dropped points in games we shouldn’t have.

What do you think the team is capable of achieving?

I think we can compete in the cup and challenge for the league if we can get the consistency we showed in the first half of the season.

What do you think of the standard of the Welsh National League Premier Division compared to the level (s) you have played before?

The standard is very good and definitely a step up to what I have played previously. But this has benefited my game as I’m playing with a higher quality of players than previously as well.

What honours have you won in the game?

Lucky enough to have won a few trophies. Won a few Chester Sunday League cups and one league winning medal. Last season won player of the league (Chester Sunday League) which was great on a personal note.

Best game ever played in?

Winning my first cup final 3-2 and scoring the winner

Best team played so far this season?

Cefn Albion. We were poor on the day but credit to them they fully deserved their win.

Strengths and weaknesses to your game?

Strengths – finishing and pace…. weakness – not giving that away

What would you like to achieve in the game before you retire?

Winning as many trophies as I can both personally and as a team.

Best country visited?

America (Utah)

Do you follow a particular football team as a fan – Premier League or otherwise? If so, which?

Enjoy watching the Premier League (minus VAR) but I’m a Tranmere fan.

If you could bring any old TV programme back, what would it be?

Gladiators – 100%

Have any members of your family achieved anything notable in sport?

My dad played both football and rugby up until the age of 50 and in his younger years played in the preliminary rounds of the FA Cup. My oldest brother played at a high standard in the West Cheshire Leagues.

What item of importance to you could you survive without for the least time?

Hate to say it, but phone

Who’s the funniest character in the dressing room at Rhostyllen?

There are many characters in the squad. A lot of banter flying around in training and in the changing rooms. Everyone will grass each other up if it means getting one other fined

Are you a regular gym user?

No, but probably should do

What was the best and worst Christmas present you received?

Best – A watch from my girlfriend; Worst – The classic Lynx Africa

Who is your favourite all-time boxer and why?

Ricky Hatton. Loved the way he boxed and his press conferences were always enjoyable.

Hopes for 2020?

For Rhostyllen to be right in the mix for trophies come the end of the season. Personally for me… finish as the league’s top goal scorer.
