Fighting Humphreys brothers promise to be busy in 2020

They had a very busy 2019 – and 2020 is going to be no different for the three Humphreys brothers from Porthmadog.

Universal Boxing Alliance British heavyweight champion Cafan Humphreys has the biggest fight of his career in New Ferry, Wirral, on April 18.

Cafan said: “I’m fighting the English champion Ben Howes, who is undefeated and a very experienced boxer; most definitely the hardest opponent we have came across, but I’m sure that will give me the push I need to take me to the next level.

“It will also be an eliminator for the European belt.”

On May 2, at the Rise of the Welsh Warriors show in Criccieth, Cafan will meet the experienced Dan Pritchard (Gorilla MA) in a rematch.

Back in October, Cafan remained unbeaten after winning a three-round verdict over Pritchard at the Ultimate Fight Night event in Colwyn Bay.

On the same evening, UBA Welsh heavyweight champion Wayne Humphreys took up a late opportunity to face Stevie Wilkins from Gloucestershire for the UMA British heavyweight title, but the Porthmadog man lost a contentious points decision.

Wayne is planning to keep active in 2020. He is firstly on the bill at Fight Night 1 in Kinmel Manor, Abergele, on February 1.

Then on April 18, in New Ferry, Wayne takes on ex-UBA Welsh Cruiserweight champion Johnny Bowden for the vacant UBA British Cruiserweight title.

As for Ben Humphreys, twin brother of Cafan, he has a massive contest coming up in April.

At the first UFN event of 2020, WUMA Welsh Heavyweight champion Ben will lock horns with the always game Paul Bamber, who he has beaten before.

Ben lost his unbeaten record in November on a night where he was unwell and should not really have boxed, but did not want to let his supporters down with a British title on the line. The previous month, Ben had ended the unbeaten record of Caernarfon warrior Alan Blacks.

Since his only loss, Ben has kept busy playing rugby for a revitalised Porthmadog and is looking to get back on track over the next few months.

Other boxers from the Porthmadog-based Humphreys’ Mad-Dog Gym will also be in the ring in the coming weeks. More details to follow
