Prestatyn Town 1 (Davies 7)
Cymru North – Dec 28, 2019
Prestatyn Town maintained their seven-point lead at the Cymru North peak with a 1-0 home win over coastal rivals Rhyl, watched by a superb attendance of 976.
Danny Davies’ seventh-minute goal proved enough for the Seasiders to avenge a 2-1 defeat at Belle Vue back in August.
Davies broke the deadlock at the Motion Finance Stadium when he was picked out on the right-hand side of the box by a lovely delivery from Ben Maher and applied a clinical finish into the middle of the goal.
It was almost 2-0 when Dan Roberts’ fierce shot was superbly saved by Rory Crowther and the ball was cleared.
Play was held up for a nasty injury suffered by Rhyl’s Sam Molyneux, following which Town’s Zebb Edwards received a yellow for the offending challenge.
Close to the interval Crowther did well to keep out an Alex Jones free kick, then deep into added time Jordan Davies drove just wide for the hosts.
The second half was much more even with a Rhyl side possessing some highly promising youngsters giving as good as they got.
Prestatyn found the net but the goal was ruled out for offside before a tremendous piece of defending from Michael Parker foiled the Lilywhites.
Davies was thwarted by a great tackle before Crowther saved from Town’s scorer again.
Prestatyn’s Alex Jones was dismissed for a second yellow with four minutes left.
Rhyl tried hard to get back on terms, but the Seasiders took the points.
