Bangor 1876 enter the Christmas period top of the Gwynedd League after making it a perfect 10 straight victories on Saturday with a 6-0 home success over Llanystumdwy, reports Jonathan Ervine.

The opening goal arrived in the 26th minute after some slick passing led to Dylan Summers-Jones breaking into the left side of the penalty area before squaring the ball for Benn Lundstram to sidefoot home.

Eight minutes later, captain Michael Johnston headed in a free-kick swung into the box from the right wing.

In the final move of the opening period, Shaun Lock made in 3-0 after his powerful left-footed shot from outside the box deceived the visiting goalkeeper.

Shortly after the interval, a fourth goal arrived as Summers-Jones broke into the penalty area and calmly slotted home his 28th of the season.

Petrie scored 1876’s fifth goal and his 31st of the campaign in the 73rd minute after he was picked out well by Cameron Barry as he ran into the box and netted with a stabbed shot that the Llanystumdwy goalkeeper could not keep out.

In the final minute, Ben Owen delivered a sixth goal with a shot from the edge of the penalty area that skimmed the head of a Llanystumdwy defender on its way in.

On a day when 1876 achieved an impressive result on the field, the club again showed its community spirit off the field as its food bank collection saw players, officials, fans and sponsors contribute a vast array of items. Further food bank collections will take place at all remaining home games this season.

The final match of 2019 for Bangor 1876 will be at home to Bontnewydd at 7.45pm on Monday, December 30.

Bangor 1876: Leon Jones, Dafydd Thomas, Matthew Lock (Harry Jones 57), Shaun Lock, Ben Owen, Michael Johnston (Cian Williams 82), Jamie Petrie, Cameron Barry, Les Davies, Benn Lundstram, Dylan Summers-Jones.
