Four goals from Corrig McGonigle means he ends 2022 with a remarkable 42 for the season from just 18 games so far.
And another big win for Bangor 1876 keeps them unbeaten in the tier 3 Ardal North West.
The opening goal arrived in the seventh minute when Liam Morris broke down the left and his precise cross was headed in by McGonigle from the edge of the six yard area.
On 21 minutes, McGonigle added his second. There looked to be no danger when he received the ball with his back to goal just inside the penalty area on the right. However, he turned sharply and curled a shot over Rhostyllen goalkeeper William Roberts.
Shortly after the midway point, Les Davies initially saw his powerful downward header from a Sion Edwards corner well saved by Roberts. But Davies was able to hook the rebound in from the edge of the six yard box.
Sion Edwards almost added a fourth when he cut in from the right but Roberts saved well from his powerful low shot.
Half-time: Bangor 1876 3-0 Rhostyllen
Five minutes into the second half, Gethin Thomas’ strike was finger-tipped away by Roberts.
Soon after Davies played a ball over the top for McGonigle to chase and the prolific attacker chipped over the Rhostyllen goalkeeper and into the net from the left side of the penalty area.
Just before the hour, McGonigle scored his fourth of the afternoon when he side-footed in a Jamie Petrie cross from close range to make it 5-0. Now 1876’s all-time record marksman, McGonigle is on 76 in all competitions from just 33 matches.
Rhostyllen got on the scoresheet just after the hour. when Kian Owen was adjudged to have fouled Jordan Ellis and Taylor Williams stepped up to convert the spot kick.
Inside the last quarter hour, 1876 were reduced to ten men when Kian Owen received a second yellow card.
In the 86th minute it was McGonigle’s turn to be the provider. He headed on a long throw from substitute Shaun Lock which allowed fellow substitute Harry Galeotti to score from close range.
Rhostyllen continued to battle and Eric Brown grabbed their second in injury time.
Bangor 1876 return to action with another home game at 7.45 pm on Tuesday 3 January when they welcome Llanrwst United to Treborth for a league tussle.
