Caerwys rounded off the year in the North East Wales League with an expected comfortable win against lowly Bellevue, reports Steven Griffith.
The final score at Lon-yr-Ysgol was 6-0, the result ensuring Jordan Hadaway’s side end 2019 in fifth place.
Matty Palin was made home team captain for the day as this was to be his last match before leaving for pastures new in Australia.
Sean Cottrell and Josh Richardson put Caerwys two up early in the game before Richardson suffered a suspected broken nose following an accidental collision and had to leave the pitch.
Elgan Hughes added two more before the break and indeed it could have been more had it not been for some heroic goalkeeping from Stephen Jones.
In the second half Jones continued to frustrate the Caerwys attack until Dylan Mackie beat him from 20 yards out.
Jones made two some decent saves from Theo Woolford-Dyer before Elgan Hughes scored the goal of the game with a great strike into the top right hand corner of the net from 18 yards for his hat-trick.
To their credit Bellevue never gave up and young Caerwys keeper Rhys Williams had to make a decent save to deny the opposition late on.
This was the only match to take place in the North East Wales League on Saturday.
