When Connah’s Quay Nomads Reserves & Colts lost 2-1 at home to local rivals Airbus UK Development last weekend, the longest-running 100% record in North Wales senior Saturday football came to a halt.
The Deesiders had recorded 11 straight wins in the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) fourth division – the Reserves and Colts – before the Wingmakers brought them to ground.
This now means just three teams possess perfect stats in North Wales Saturday senior football.
Leading the way are newly-formed this season NFA of Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Division One, who have won eight on the bounce, netting 42 times in the process.
Another new team, Bangor 1876, have won every one of their fixtures in the Gwynedd League, their 7-0 record having delivered 52 goals with a mere four conceded.
Meanwhile, Bangor City Reserves currently stand 6-0 in the Welsh Alliance Reserves Division.
City have benefited, of late especially, from being able to field very strong teams because of the depth of the first-team squad and playing on other days of the week rather than Saturday.
How long will these teams maintain unblemished records?
Well NFA’s will stay untouched for another weekend at least as this Saturday they host Caergybi in the NWCFA Junior Cup.
Bangor 1876 have probably their hardest league assignment of the season on Saturday when they travel to leaders Trearddur Bay Bulls.
Bangor City Reserves do not play in the league again until Friday, December 13 (unlucky for some), when champions Porthmadog visit Nantporth. So that might be a testing one for the Citizens.
As for undefeated sides, there are currently 10 of those in North Wales Saturday football.
The best achievement surely belongs to Connah’s Quay Nomads, who are yet to lose in the top flight Cymru Premier League in 16 matches this term.
Apart from the three aforementioned 100% sides, also unbeaten in their respective leagues in 2019-20 are: Holywell Town (WNL Premier), Rhuddlan Town and Abergele (Vale of Clwyd and Conwy Premier), Llysfaen (VoC Division One), Chirk Town (North East Wales) and Mountain Rangers (Anglesey).
Hats off to anyone who can keep an unbeaten record into December, but the stars of the campaign so far have to be Nomads, not just for their first team feats, but also those of the Reserves and Colts men and the women’s team too, also beaten for the first time this season last weekend.
