North East Wales Football League: Double from Acton’s Challinor sinks Caerwys

Caerwys produced a lethargic display when losing 2-0 at home to Acton

A lacklustre display by Caerwys saw more points lost as they went down 2-0 at home to Acton in the Top Mark Uniforms North East Wales League, reports Steve Griffith.

Having lost keeper Seb Czubaj to Corwen, youngster Rhys Williams was again given another chance between the sticks.

He will be disappointed with conceding a goal after 3 minutes when Niall Challoner’s tame header from six yards should really have been kept out.

Caerwys did try to get back in the game but rarely tested the Acton goal. A Jon Edmonds shot from 20 yards went wide and Dylan Mackie should have done better. At the other end Acton missed two point blank chances.

Caerwys supporters were expecting a better show after the break but time after time attacks broke down to due to poor distribution and no killer instinct in front of goal.

Challoner was Acton’s best player and the big striker sealed the points in the 92nd minute with a deserved second goal following a sustained spell of pressure.

Caerwys need to improve all-round with team communication, passing and movement if they are to make any progress at this level.

Sychdyn romped to an 8-1 triumph over bottom side Bellevue at Wat’s Dyke Way.

Bobby Gregory gave the visitors a shock fifth-minute lead before Jamie Rogers (2), Mark Weir, Nathan Howartson (3), Shaun Antrobus and Terry Pughe piled on the goals for the hosts.

In the Veterans Premier Division, FC Nomads Vets and Point of Ayr Vets drew three apiece.

Mike Prydderch, David Speed and Scott Ellis struck for Nomads, Steve Stooke, Lee Acott (pen) and Dean Rigby ensuring the Colliers took a point.

All other matches were postponed.
