Caernarfon Town 4 (Darren Thomas 8, Gruffydd John 55, Nathan Craig pen 60, Sion Bradley 68)
Barry Town United 1 (Kayne McLaggon pen 37)
Cymru Premier – November 2, 2019
Caernarfon Town continue to let their on-the-field performances do the talking.
On Saturday, the Canaries made the most convincing case yet that they can now regularly rub shoulders with the Cymru Premier’s elite by thrashing previously undefeated Barry Town United 4-1 at The Oval.
The result edged the Cofis back into fourth spot and just three points behind leaders Connah’s Quay Nomads.
The deadlock was broken in the eighth minute when Darren Thomas picked up the ball 35 yards out, waltzed past two opponents and powered his low effort past the diving Mike Lewis.
Buoyed by the goal, the hosts, unbeaten at home in the league, pushed forward in search of a second score and both Sion Bradley and Cai Jones threatened before the visitors finally got into a promising position but, as Kayne McLaggon fell in the Town area, referee Nick Pratt waved the play to continue before showing the yellow card to the striker for simulation.
The dangerous Danny Brookwell was threatening to run havoc on Town’s left as he put their left back under pressure and he twice forced Lewis into saves as he looked to get on the scoresheet.
Barry got back on level terms in the 37th minute when Gruff John was adjudged to have brought Momodou Touray down in the box and McLaggon made no mistake from the spot.
The goal seemed to knock the Cofis and they did well to stem a purple patch for the visitors to stay on level terms at the break.
Normal service was resumed after the restart as Caernarfon regained their swagger and twice went close to retaking the lead, through headers from Gareth Edwards and Gruff John.
The Canaries regained their advantage three minutes later when Lewis half-cleared a Nathan Craig corner and Gruff John was first to react as he smartly headed the ball through a crowded penalty area and into the roof of the net.
Caernarfon were relentless in their approach to clinch the points and, having camped in and around the Barry area for a decent period, their efforts were rewarded after Thomas was fouled inside the box. Craig sent Lewis the wrong way with his penalty.
Bradley added a fourth in the 68th minute and the visitors could be thankful to Lewis for keeping the score at 4-1 as he thwarted Brookwell, Breese and Thomas before the final whistle.
