Six top weekend performances in North Wales football (Oct 19)

Bangor 1876 3 Penycae 3 (aet, 1876 won 3-2 on pens)

Gwynedd League underdogs 1876 fought back from a goal down three times to eventually force a penalty shoot-out in this Welsh Cup first round tie which they won.

Penycae led 2-1 through two Anthony Dunleavy goals, Jamie Petrie (pen) replying, before the hosts levelled deep into injury time through Matthew Lock.

In extra time, Evan Woodall made it 3-2 to the third tier Welsh National League favourites, only for the tier five hosts to equalise again through Petrie’s second spot-kick.

And 1876 made it 13 straight wins in all competitions by prevailing 3-2 on pens in front of an ecstatic crowd at Treborth.

Rhostyllen 1 Cefn Albion 4

After last season’s double cup-winning heroics, Albion had made a mixed start to the current campaign.

On Saturday, however, they really came good at second-place Rhostyllen, Jordan Jones, Alex Williams, Danny Holland and Nic Jones netting for the visitors, Tom Douglas replying.

Bodorgan 6 Holyhead Town Reserves 7

Although Holyhead put out a strengthened side at Bodorgan, they still deserve credit for scoring seven goals away from home and achieving their first win of the season at the eighth attempt.

In their previous seven games, the Harbourmen had let in 52 goals and their defensive woes continued on Saturday, but on this occasion they possessed the firepower to outscore the opposition.

Asa Thomas, Luke Miles and Mark Owen all netted two apiece for Town, Robert Thomas with the other, Ioan Thomas (2), Luke Winter, Luke Allaway, Connor Rees and Gareth Hughes for the hosts.

Llandudno Albion 2 Mynydd Llandegai 2

To come back from 2-0 down away to the leaders, end their 100% home record and finish up with a draw is quite a feat – take a bow Mynydd Llandegai.

Adam Hold and Dan Roberts both struck for Albion in the first half, Osian Jones and Joshua Owen responding after the break to secure a point.

Rhuddlan Town 2 Meliden 4

Vale of Clwyd and Conwy Premier Division leaders Rhuddlan had beaten Meliden 6-3 in a league clash back in August, but it was a different story in the President’s Cup on Saturday.

It was revenge for Meliden with Liam Hughes, Corey Beeson, Jake Hughes and Luke Eidon notching a goal apiece, Connor Bucknall with both for the hosts.

Conwy Borough 1 Ruthin Town 2

The prolific Llyr Morris struck twice to send 10-man Ruthin through to the Welsh Cup second round at the expense of a Conwy side situated four places higher than the Vale of Clwyd visitors in the Cymru North.

It was always going to be a tough test for Town, but they prevailed thanks to a Morris pair, Craig Whelan responding for the hosts.

Gwion Owen was red carded late on for the travellers, but it is they who progressed in a competition they have impressed in during recent seasons.
