North Wales Road Runner Jon Evans clocks course PB at Berlin Marathon

North Wales fell runner Mark Davies had to battle against terrible weather and a challenging terrain to claim fourth place last Saturday in the Peris Horseshoe (Ras Pedol Peris) mountain race.

The event, said to be one of the toughest, yet most spectacular on the circuit, takes athletes via a series of undulating trails to the summits of Elidir Fawr, Y Garn, Glyder Fawn, and Snowdon, before descending back to the start at Llanberis.

Normally run over approximately 28 kms, this year it had to be shortened slightly due to the adverse conditions, which included strong winds, low cloud, and heavy rain.

Despite these problems, North Wales Road Runners Club competitor Mark ran well and completed the course in 3 hours 11 mins. He also recorded a distance of 25.65 kms with an elevation of 2,114 metres.

PB FOR JON EVANS AT BERLIN MARATHON

Experienced marathon star Jon Evans of NWRRC clocked a course PB of 3 hours 46 mins 6 seconds, and celebrated running his fastest time since last October at Sunday’s prestigious Berlin Marathon in Germany.

RUNNERS ROAR ROUND COURSE AT KNOWSLEY SAFARi 10-MILER

Two NWRRC athletes roared around the Safari 10-mile course at Knowsley Safari Park last Sunday with Rory Middleton finishing 12th in 1.03.21, and club colleague Mark Jessett just 28 seconds adrift, but claiming a great new PB of 1.03.49 in 14th place.

Hasenheide, Berlin

Jon Evans, who was preparing for the Berlin Marathon the following day, ran in the Hasenheide Parkrun in Germany. He was one of 783 runners including many Brits, at this popular weekend warm-up, and recorded a comfortable 27.51.

Conwy

Rory Middleton made a rare appearance at the Conwy Parkrun last Saturday and was first NWRRC finisher in seventh position in 19 mins 12 secs and claimed second place in his SM25 category.

Rory was of 11 club members among the 248 runners who braved the wet, muddy and very breezy conditions, which seriously affected times, yet four runners still recorded age category wins.

Steve Roberts was 16th and 3rd MV50 in 21.19, with Gethin Jones 30th and 3rd MV30 in 22.54. Carla Green was 5th female in 23.08 and 1st VW50 cat.

Partially-sighted athlete Daniel Owens finished in 37th position in 23.26, running again with his generous guide Anthony Parvin.

Veteran Don Hale was 1st MV65 cat winner in 23.42, and Helen Hannam enjoyed a good result after returning from holiday to finish as 7th female and was 1st VW40 cat in 24.53.

Stuart Culverhouse, running with his young son Joe was 65th in 25.23, and master vet Dave Gardner claimed another VM75 cat win in 121st spot in 28.55.

And Rachel Morris, another holiday returnee who enjoyed her first outing for two weeks was 54th female in 31.48; and Michael (Pat) Finnie, running with his 5-year old granddaughter Ava Rogers – who made her Parkrun debut – was 238th in 46.04.
