Talented teenager Troy Kettle had a great race in the North Wales Junior Mountain Running Championships on the Great Orme, finishing third in the tough 5k event in 25 minutes 7 seconds.
Troy, who is just 16, is one of several young stars for North Wales Road Runners Club who has already enjoyed a string of very successful results in his first full season.
Mark and Gemma star at Elidir Fawr Fell Race
Three NWRRC athletes competed in the challenging Elidir Fawr fell race last week, and Mark Davies, fresh from his epic Alpine endurance event, finished third in 59 minutes 39 seconds.
He was less than a minute behind the overall winner and former NWRRC colleague Michael Corrales, who is now representing Dark Peak.
Gemma Moore was 1st VW40 cat in 16th place in 72.58, with Tony Price-Jones 36th in 83.21.
GREEN DUO AT ABERSOCH HALF-MARATHON
North Wales runner Martin Green confirmed his great form by finishing second in the Abersoch Half Marathon last Saturday, and was just over a minute behind the overall winner.
The NWRCC athlete was also 1st M40 cat winner in 1 hr 15 mins 21 seconds. His wife Carla was the 4th female finisher and 3rd F40 cat in 1.43.26. Both were also representing the North Wales team at the same event.
JON’S 400TH RUN AT MACCLESFIELD HALF-MARATHON
Long distance runner Jon Evans used the Macclesfield Half Marathon last weekend as part of his final preparations for the Berlin Marathon, running a steady race to finish in 1.50.30.
Incredibly, this was Jon’s 400th club run and although he avoided heavy rain during the race, he said it poured down in biblical proportions just before the start leaving parts of the course flooded.
ATROCIOUS WEATHER AT BELFAST HALF-MARATHON
Husband and wife team Mandy and Charlie Owen braved the wettest time they had ever known during a race at last Sunday’s Belfast Half Marathon.
Even the organisers agreed conditions were ‘atrocious’ in their results briefing with a drenched Mandy finishing in 2 hrs 7 mins 50 secs, and an equally bedraggled Charlie surprisingly recorded his second-best time in 2.21.22.
MARK JESSETT 1ST AT CONWY PARKRUN
Mark Jessett from NWRRC finished first at the Conwy Parkrun last Saturday with a great new PB time of 18 mins 44 secs, with three colleagues also claiming places within the top 10 finishers.
Mark also won his SM30 cat with Iwan Evans second overall in 19.21, as 1st MV40 cat. Ten club runners were among the 324 entrants.
Parkrun debutant Stephen Bozier ran extremely well in 5th spot in 20.30 and celebrated a new 5k PB as 2nd MV40 cat, with Gethin Jones running his fastest time this year in 10th place in 20.47 and 3rd SM30 cat.
Tony Price-Jones, running with partially-sighted athlete Daniel Owens, was 3rd MV35 in 22.07, and Daniel also won his SM25 cat, sharing the same excellent time.
Veteran Don Hale was 1st MV65 cat in 23.05, and the event also attracted some club parents running with their children.
Stuart Culverhouse with his son Joe was 73rd in 24.33, with Joe just 10 seconds adrift of a new PB.
Meanwhile, Hannah Griffiths running with her son Jack, was 1st VW45 winner in 90th place in 25.31, with Jack 161st in 28.53. Master vet Dave Gardner continued his recovery from injury as 1st MV75 cat in 29.30.
Jon Evans finished 4th at Newborough in a new course PB of 22.11 and was also 1st VM50.
HEATON PARK, MANCHESTER
Llyr ApGeraint-Roberts was 9th at Heaton Park in 18.11 to celebrate a new PB and was also 1st MV45 cat.
VICTORIA PARK, BELFAST
Charlie and Mandy Owen attended the Victoria Park run in Belfast on Saturday just prior to their half- marathon run the next day. Mandy finished in 28.47 and Charlie in 30.51.
