Bala Town’s Danny Gosset is determined to beat cancer and play football again

Bala Town midfielder Danny Gosset says he is overwhelmed by support received since revealing he is dealing with a life-threatening illness.

The 25-year-old is determined to beat non-Hodgkin Lymphoma and resume his football career.

In a statement released by Bala Town today, Danny said: “In August this year I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, a type of blood cancer.

“Since the diagnosis, I have already started treatment at Christie Hospital in Manchester and count myself lucky that I’m able to get the best possible care to overcome this.

“The support I’ve received since the diagnosis has been incredible and I’m truly grateful to everyone who has been in contact.

“During the Europa League play-offs I suspected something was wrong as I was suffering from an unusual pain in my left leg. After weeks of rest during the close season unfortunately, nothing changed. I would like to thank Ffiona Evans, our physiotherapist at Bala CPD for encouraging me to have further tests. This encouragement led to the diagnosis.

“A massive thank you also to everyone at Bala Town, from the manager and players to all the staff for their support over these past few months. I’m proud to be part of this special club and will do everything in my power to be back on the pitch at Maes Tegid as soon as possible.”

Bangor-born Danny began his career with Oldham Athletic and made two appearances in the Football League before his release.

After a spell on loan with Stockport County, he made his Welsh Premier League debut for Rhyl in 2014-15. He later had a stint at full-time club The New Saints before signing for Bangor City in June 2016.

Danny has two successful seasons at Nantporth, his industrious passing game fitting the team’s style of play, and he helped the club reach the Europa League and played against Danish side Lyngby in 2017.

He moved to Bala Town in 2018, and has also had a loan stint at Cefn Druids.

Danny has represented Wales at C level and made his international debut in March 2018 against a strong England side.

Social media has been inundated with goodwill messages to the talented midfielder today.
