Six top performances from the North Wales football weekend (Sep 6-7)

Brothers Tom, Harry and Elliot Croston scored seven goals between them for Llanfairfechan on Saturday

Bala may have been expected to win against the Premier newcomers, but anyone scoring six goals away in the top flight deserves special praise.

And it was the quality of the Lakesiders’ performance which stood out, Henry Jones, Chris Venables (2 pens), Lassana Mendes, Stuart Jones and Louis Robles sharing the goals for Colin Caton’s men, who have made a great start to the season.

To come back from 3-0 down against a team with a 100% record and force a draw is quite a feat.

Llanuwchllyn produced arguably the best performance of the day in North Wales football at the weekend.

The Alex were in control after goals from Matty Lewis on 15 minutes, Dan Lloyd after 20 and Danny Wynne 49, but the hosts rallied and grabbed a share of the honours courtesy of Sam Evans (2) and Delwyn Jones.

Barry Town United 0 Caernarfon Town 0
JD Cymru Premier League

Take That! An amazing photo from Paul Evans of Caernarfon Town which suggests Gareth Evans has had enough of kicking the ball so has decided to boot his Barry Town opponent into orbit instead. What’s more, Gareth looks really pleased at the distance he’s achieved with his kick. Of course such a move would be against the rules and a player of Gareth’s class would never be guilty of such an act! All an illusion folks!

Caernarfon have gained nowhere near the points they deserve for their early-season displays.

A 0-0 draw at Jenner Park on Saturday meant the Canaries have conceded just one goal in matches against last season’s top three – TNS, Connah’s Quay and Barry.

And the bold Cofis could easily have taken all three points at Barry, whose goalkeeper Mike Lewis saved their bacon on a few occasions.

Llanfairfechan Town Football Club are always supporting the local community with over a 100 locals playing across the men’s, ladies and junior teams. Recently they collected for the Llanfairfechan Foodbank through player and club member donations to this great cause. Here some of the players taking a break from training to show support

Perhaps the result itself is not worthy of being in this list, with Llanfairfechan among the top sides in the division and All-Stars struggling early doors, but the fact three brothers came up with seven of the eight goals between them more than merits a mention.

The Croston brothers were the stand-out performers in this game.

Elliot and Harry both registered hat-tricks, Thomas added a single and Si Alex Owens also found the net.

After having the start of their season delayed through no fault of their own, Holywell had to settle for two 0-0 draws in their opening pair of games in a new division.

However, the Wellmen are starting to hit their stride now, as they followed up a 5-2 success at Cefn Albion by sweeping aside Plas Madoc 4-0 on Saturday.

Shaun Tuck grabbed a brace, Jacob Wise and Ben Brierly adding singles.

Good to see Airbus off the mark with a win at the fifth attempt.

The Wingmakers lost their opening four, but the performances had merited some reward in at least a couple of those matches.

Now the promoted side have got that elusive W on the board – and deservedly so.

Kristian Platt and Andy Owens put them two-up at Park Avenue before Luke Boundford notched a late reply.
