Thursday night football – Gwynedd League

Llangoed 1 Bro Goronwy 2

The light fading with every second of the match, Bro Goronwy defended to the end to come away with all three league points as man of the match Rob Tiesteel headed his men to a 2-1 victory.

In-form Jac Thomas put the visitors ahead after 13 minutes.

Latching on to Tiesteel’s accurate over the top ball, Thomas finished coolly for his 11th goal of the season.

The same combination should have doubled the score, Tiesteel again accurate in his delivery, Thomas outpacing Jamie Roberts but this time his dink over the keeper failed to drop on target.

Bro were applying the pressure, Ross Mark heading over keeper Ciaran Elsworth only for Nick Williams to clear off the line, the resultant corner seeing Connor Jones bounce his header down but fractionally beyond the crossbar.

Jay Finter had Llangoed’s first meaningful attempt of the half, connecting well but shooting wide.

Ryan Jones had the power to reach the danger area from his touch-line throws and came up trumps to help put Bro 2-0 to the good.

This time, up from the back, centre-half Tiesteel rose to flick his backwards nod up and over into the top corner.

Bro looked comfortable but let Llangoed back into the game minutes before the interval.

Poor defending from a corner left Sam Gregson plenty of time to put the ball past Gareth Owen from close range to set up a possible second half comeback.

With Llangoed’s youngsters showing no fear they out-passed and out-fought their opponents but could not find the Midas touch.

Dylan Williams was unlucky with his glancing header sending the ball wrong side of the post, while Finter was narrowly off target with his free kick. It seemed to be one-way traffic with Llangoed doing all the pushing.

Rui Silva for Bro could have wrapped up all the points after 70 minutes but was unable to keep his free header down as Pat Mee had a couple of good chances from an angle but never looked like controlling his efforts well enough.

Young glovesman Elsworth may be a name to watch out for in the future and he did his credentials no harm with a world class save from Jac Thomas’ rasping volley that would not have looked out of place in any league.

Silva slid wide from a Thomas set up with Bro’s final chance as at the other end the Goronwy defence held firm to seal the away league victory.

Llannerchymedd 1 Bontnewydd 9

Morgan Roberts notched a second-half hat-trick for a dominating Bontnewydd side at Tan Parc.

Aled Steele added a double after the break, while Josh Roberts also netted in the second period.

Bont led 3-0 at half time, Alun Williams, Cai Penny Williams and Daniel Evans on the mark.

Shaun Pritchard pulled one back for the hosts in the 76th minute.

Postponed: Caergybi v Waunfawr – no referee available.

Welsh National League

Buckley Town defeated Ruthin Town 2-0 in the Reserves Division thanks to two late goals.

There was no score until the 78th minute, when Joe Trueman finally broke the deadlock.

And Liam Schofield sealed the points with a second near the end.
