Tuesday night football: Prestatyn top Cymru North while Denbigh return to Welsh Alliance Division One peak

Rob Hughes made it back-to-back hat-tricks for a Prestatyn Town side which hit top spot with a 5-1 home thrashing of Gresford Athletic.

The Colliers were up against it from the fifth minute when defender Ashton Williams was shown a red card.

Despite this, the Wrexham side took a 10th minute lead against the odds when Jordan MacCarter headed home.

Town levelled through Jordan Davies on 21 minutes, then soon after Hughes converted a spot-kick awarded for a foul on Danny Davies.

Hughes struck again with a 25-yard screamer before having the opportunity for a treble when the hosts were awarded another penalty, but this time his effort was tipped over the bar by Ben Jones.

The unplayable Hughes would not be denied his third, though, drilling home a beauty in the 38th minute following fine build-up from Jack Kenny and Jordan Davies to make the scoreline 4-1 at half time. That was a ninth goal in five games from Hughes, a summer signing from Connah’s Quay Nomads.

Jordan Davies bagged his second on the hour to complete the scoring.

Flint Town United won a thriller against Conwy Borough 5-3 at Cae-y-Castell.

Mark Cadwallader (2), Andrew Brown, Brandon Burrows and Alex Titchiner provided the Silkmen’s goals, Corrig McGonigle (2, 1 pen) and Rob Jones replying for the Tangerines, who could have made it even closer but for missed chances.

Llandudno bounced back from a 4-1 home defeat against Gresford last weekend by ending Rhyl’s 100% record with a 2-0 victory over the Lilywhites at Maesdu Park.

After a goal-less first half, Tudno took a 55th minute lead when Dean Seager headed in a Robbie Parry cross.

The points were sealed in the 84th minute when Aaron Pomeyie’s attempt came back off keeper Keighan Jones and Scott McHarrie converted the rebound.

Rhyl’s best efforts from Sam Molyneux and James Murphy were well saved by Shaun Pearson.

Bangor City recorded their first win of the season as they saw off Buckley Town 3-1 at Nantporth Stadium.

Azizou Zoumbare, who hails from Burkina Faso but has played his previous football in Germany, scored twice for the Citizens, Francesco Serafino adding a single, Pat Hinchcliffe responding for the travellers.

Iwan Matthews grabbed the only goal as Llanrhaeadr pipped Corwen 1-0 and Guilsfield versus Ruthin Town ended 1-1.

Llyr Morris handed Ruthin an eighth minute lead, but Robbie James equalised after 71.

Welsh Alliance

Denbigh Town returned to the Division One summit with a 3-1 triumph over Vale of Clwyd neighbours Llandyrnog United.

Jacob Walker (2) and Danny Clarke scored for the home side, Michael Guest striking first for the visitors, who gave the hosts a real run for their money.

Llanberis are up to third after beating Penrhyndeudraeth 3-0 at Ffordd Padarn, Tomos Saynor, Ifan Mansoor and Gethin Wakeham (pen) all on target.

Dean Redmond made it six goals in six games since joining Bodedern Athletic as his penalty helped the Anglesey side gain a narrow 2-1 win over Mynydd Llandegai.

Redmond’s goal separated the teams at half time but Llandegai battled back well after the break to level through Wyn Morris.

Richard Williams’ late decider ensured Boded maintained their 100% home record.

Greenfield lie fourth after a Sam Jones pair secured a 2-1 success against Glan Conwy, Jamie Jones replying.

There was a shock in Division Two as leaders Gaerwen had their perfect stats of five straight victories shattered when Pwllheli emerged as 4-1 winners at Lon Groes.

Paul Lewis pocketed his first hat-trick for Ben Ogilvy’s men with Gareth Jones-Evans also on the mark, Sean Pritchard replying late for stunned Gaerwen.

Ryan Rowlands’ injury-time winner – his second goal of the match – ensured Amlwch Town snatched a dramatic 3-2 triumph over visitors Pentraeth.

Chris Byast also netted for the blues, Gwyndaf Hughes and Rees Roberts on the mark for the 10-man visitors, who led 2-1 in the second half.

Ciran Jones, Nico Clwyd and Ynyr Clwyd produced the goals which clinched Llannefydd a 3-1 win against Llandudno Amateurs, Mike Chapman responding. The result put Gwyndaf Pritchard’s men equal on points with Gaerwen.

Iwan Owen, Rhys Parry and Owain Roberts were Y Felinheli’s marksmen in a 3-2 win against Barmouth and Dyffryn, Osian Owen and Ben Fisher running Bermo close.

In the Reserves Division, Celt Moss struck twice as Llanberis triumphed 2-0 at Pwllheli.

Llanrug United and Nantlle Vale shared a 1-1 draw, Dafydd Llewelyn for the Eithin Duon side, Daniel Bell equalising.

Llanrwst United versus Penmaenmawr Phoenix ended one-apiece.
