Holywell Town have applied to enter a team in the 2019-20 North Wales Women’s League.
The good news comes on the back of Prestatyn Town’s decision to fold due to a lack of players.
This means a potential 19 teams will be competing across the two divisions when fixtures kick off on September 8.
Holywell announced in May they intended to form a women’s team. The club already has a thriving girls section with sides at under-8, U-10 and U-12 level.
Training sessions for the women have been well attended and a friendly has been played against fellow newcomers NFA.
The club decided that things were going so well they would apply to join the North Wales Women’s League for 2019-20.
A squad of between 16-20 players has been brought together for the squad, who will be managed by Tony Doyle.
Home games will take place at Halkyn Road, where the club’s men’s teams also play.
Holywell plan to launch their ladies team as part of a fun day at the ground on September 1.
The day’s entertainment will start at 11am with a mini-tournament involving Holywell’s Under-8, U-10 and U-12 teams.
Then at 2pm, Holywell Ladies will take on Wrexham Ladies.
Sideshows on the day will include face-painting, cake stalls, glitter tattoos, hot food and much more.
Entry is free, so a big crowd is hoped for.
Holywell Town Ladies’ sponsors are Steph’s Beauty and Abakhan fabrics, hobby and home.
