The North Wales Women’s Football League is to remain as it is for the 2019-20 season after plans for a new North Wales Coast FA League were rejected by the FAW on Monday.
The proposed NWCFA League would have catered for 14 coast teams, but left four from North East Wales and one from Central Wales potentially out in the wilderness.
North Wales Women’s League secretary Huw Jones said letters are going out to clubs today informing them that if they have not yet joined, they need to do so by August 17.
“The league is still on course to start on September 8. This is fantastic news,” said Mr Jones.
There could be a potential 19 teams in the NWWFL this season. It is planned that the two-division system introduced last season will continue.
The NWWFL was co-ordinated by a new committee last season, comprising mainly North East Wales FA officers.
Mr Jones said a new rule book has been compiled to avoid some of the difficulties created in the 2018-19 campaign by the old regulations.
Due to this, two appeals are still ongoing with the FAW. The 2018-19 Division One champions are yet to be crowned and a promotion issue affecting Division Two is also in the balance.
Mr Jones an FAW hearing into both matters is expected to be held and concluded on August 15.
A meeting of the North Wales Women’s League will then take place at the Springfield Hotel in Holywell on August 21 at 7pm, where the make-up of the two divisions for 2019-20 will be confirmed.
“There will definitely be two divisions and if all the teams of last season now reapply we will have 19 teams. I am so glad this is sorted, there’s been a lot of uncertainty and waiting. We just want to get the ladies playing football again.”
