Kinmel Bay welcomed newcomers Prestatyn Sports Ladies to Y Morfa determined to kick-start their league campaign and get their first points on the board. And what a way to do it!
A fantastic team performance saw the Bay produce some excellent attacking football, clinical finishing and a well-deserved clean sheet to claim an emphatic 7–0 victory.
The Bay couldn’t have asked for a better start, taking the lead inside the very first minute.
Georgia Williams played a neat little knock into the path of Lucy Price, who wasted no time in firing the ball straight past the Prestatyn keeper. A dream start for the home side and exactly the confidence boost needed.
In the 15th minute, Bay doubled their advantage following a beautifully weighted pass from Tasha Standing, who placed the ball perfectly in front of Kerry Williams. Racing onto it, Williams confidently struck the ball into the bottom right corner, leaving the keeper with little chance.
Skipper Seren Williams made it three on 24 minutes via a fantastic set piece. Standing delivered a dangerous corner into the box, finding Williams, who powered her header straight into the back of the net.
Goal number four on 40 minutes was supplied by Amy Chesters.
Kinmel Bay continued to pile on the pressure, and some lovely link-up play saw Kerry Williams pick out Chesters, who made no mistake in finding the bottom left corner to give the Bay a commanding four-goal advantage just before the break.
Despite the scoreline, Prestatyn Sports continued to battle and created opportunities of their own, but the Bay defence stood strong, with goalkeeper Steph Farley producing some excellent saves to keep the visitors at bay.
The second half began much like the first, with Kinmel Bay continuing to press forward, move the ball well and create chances.
Just two minutes after the restart, Chesters played a lovely ball across the face of goal, finding Georgia Williams perfectly positioned to calmly slot the ball home.
The Bay’s sixth came from the penalty spot. Skipper Seren Williams stepped up with confidence and made absolutely no mistake, finding the back of the net to grab her second goal of the afternoon.
Bay’s seventh and final goal came following a great attacking run from newly-signed Olivia McCann, who found herself one-on-one with the Prestatyn goalkeeper.
McCann struck the ball well, but Thea Fox-Byrne produced a fantastic save to deny her a debut goal. However, the rebound fell perfectly into the path of Lucy Perry, who reacted quickly and calmly slotted into the back of the net to round off a brilliant afternoon for the Bay.
Throughout the game, both goalkeepers were called into action, producing some superb saves to deny further goals.
Credit must go to the Prestatyn keeper Fox-Byrne, who despite the scoreline made some excellent stops, while Bay’s Farley was equally impressive when called upon, ensuring the home side finished with a clean sheet.
It was a fantastic all-round team performance from Kinmel Bay, with some excellent movement, intelligent passing, determination and clinical finishing. The ladies worked tirelessly for one another, showing the quality and togetherness that this squad is capable of producing.
After a frustrating start to the league campaign, Sunday’s result was exactly what the Bay needed.
Credit also to Prestatyn Sports, who continued to battle until the final whistle and showed great determination throughout.
